Awards Ceremony

Abby had her first awards ceremony on Thursday. (It's been a crazy week) She was given an award for being noticed doing something nice, getting strait A's, and being the only kindergartner to get over 5 points on her AR reading tests. (The AR program is where a child reads a book three times and then takes a quiz on the computer. If they pass it they get .5 points for each quiz.) It's been a great motivator to get her to read every day. Her favorite books are the Fancy Nancy books, Froggy books, and June B. Jones books (but I am refusing to let her read them). I'm hoping to get her to start reading more non-fiction. They have such a great selection at her library. We have a great time each morning deciding which books to get. Her school consists of only Kindergartners and 1st graders, and they started it about 3 years ago, so all the books are nearly brand new. I would almost stop going to our city library if the kids didn't love it so much. The kids section of the library has it's own personal librarian. Mr. Rob taught drama at the art's center for 20 years, and loves kids. He set out activities for them to do, has treats, and is always ready to read a book and act it out for them with props. He even helps them make up puppet shows. The kids love it. Anyways, we are so proud of Abby. She's doing a great job.
